Inspired by this rant from Dan McKinley it's worth saying this approach can and should be applied to vehicles - especially overlanders.
It goes hand in hand with Unpacking and the Coffee Beans Procedure and considering whether your vehicle was "Engineered by blind morons who hate free power".
Now - people don't always get as far as unpacking or thinking seriously about what they want from their vehicle/build, however even the oblivious gear collectors would likely agree that they want their overlander to be reliable and easy to fix and that is why you need to aim to use things that are as boring as possible.
An overlander is not the place to have an expensive complicated electrical system that needs a bluetooth connection and a phone app just to make it work, it's the place to have a dirt simple relay that can be replaced with any other relay you could pull from the nearest scrap car or truck or bridge out with the nearest piece of metal in a pinch.
Rant in progress - come back soon.
