Saturday 6th - UK to Somewhere In France

P&O ferry Dover to Calais (arrived 12:45) drove towards Mulhouse & stopped at Camping Vosgina at Moyenmoutier which is half-way between Nancy and Mulhouse.

Visited Besancon, walked up to the castle (or, more accurately, the Citadel which contains several museums, a zoo, and best of all -a moat full of monkeys!

Camped in car park just off the river in Besancon - or more accurately (because I googled it) the “Aire de stationnement camping-cars” at “71 Quai Veïl Picard, 25000 Besançon, France” so there. Basically it's a corner of a car park that faces onto the river, not a bad spot for a cheap night's sleep.

Tue 9 - Besancon to Annecy via Lausanne

Drove to Annecy (138 miles) via Lausanne & camped at Annecy Municipal camping

As we were due to come back via Switzerland, and the option was there to go via Lausanne, we dipped into Switzerland and stopped at Lausanne for lunch

Visted Les Gorges du Fier & drove over the Col du Petit Saint Bernard & camped at Camping Rutor - La Thuille Aosta Valley in La Thuille

Fri 12

Drove Colle San Carlo, walked to Lago d'Arpy & camped at Camping Arc en Ciel in Morgex.

Strada Regionale 39 (SR39), 1,954m (6,410ft) above the sea level, road to the summit is totally paved but steep, hitting a 13.0% through some of the ramps. The pass is 18.5 km (11.49 miles) long. Featured a few times in Giro d’Italia race. There are 2 routes to reach the summit. Starting from La Thuile, the ascent is 7 km long. Over this distance, the elevation gain is 530 meters. The average percentage is 7.6 %. And starting from Morgex, the ascent is 10.5 km long. Over this distance, the elevation gain is 1.049 meters. The average percentage is 10%, but includes sections over 13%

Drove to Bard (45 miles) along the Aosta valley, visited Forte di Bard.

Camped at Camping Mombarone 5 miles south of Bard

Drove to Brescia (130 miles) visited Museo Mille Miglia.

Drove to lake Iseo and camped at Camping Punta d'Oro.

Mon 15

Drove to Baveno on lake Maggiore and camped at Camping village Parisi.

Tue 16

Drove to Locarno and camped at Campeggio Lido Mappo

Drove to Roeschwoog (268 miles), think we might have stayed at Camping du Staedly

Visited Musee de l'abri which was part of the MAGINOT Line

Sat 20

Drove to Dunkirk (381 miles) & visited Leffrinckioucke bunkers

Camped at Camping Zuydcoote beach.

Ferry home!
