LT230R vs LT230T

Early LT230 transfer cases were designated “R” and later ones were “T”, as I once had two apart side by side I can show some of the differences…

Input gear

Later cross-drilled “T” type on the left (not all were cross drilled, if yours isn't then spend the £50 and swap it!) - earlier “R” on the right… not interchangeable! There's an oil feed plate made (I think) by Steve Parker that feeds oil into the end of the R type ones to reduce spline wear.

Intermediate Shaft

The big difference:

“T” at the top uses Taper roller bearings and a crush tube to set the preload, “R” type uses Roller bearings on a larger floating shaft which locates in the case with a locking tab. To my mind the “R” has a lot more bearing surface, and the larger shaft feels like it should be less prone to fretting the hole in the casing oval which is one of the few known issues with LT230's.
