6cyl to V8 Swap

This was a million years ago now, when I knew even less than I do now

Having bought Eddie in ~2000 as a very crusty 6cyl, it reached a point where something definitely wasn't quite right with the engine, so I took it to a garage and was told a rebuild was in order. No biggie, the guy (Colin) was pretty old-school in terms of mechanicing so doing the work wasn't an issue

This is one of the things so many Series owners do and it makes a BIG difference to the ride. There's claims it makes it as good as a coil sprung Defender, I'm not 100% sure that's true, especially if you use cheap shocks, but it's certainly a massive improvement.

Version 1

This happened many many moons ago while strolling around Billing show, RPI were showing off their new stainless exhaust bending machine and I decided to ask if they could bend me up a snorkel, Chris thought that was a great idea so they did it there & then, a stroll past the Mantec stand turned up a shop-soiled V8 snorkel top for a bargain price and that was it - a couple of exhaust clamps secured it all and it did many years of sterling service.

Very much work-in-progress, sorry.

Early days

	* The original 6cyl to 3.9 V8 swap
	* From carb to carb to EFI to Megasquirt
	* V8 Ignition
	* Very early camp bed
	* Stage 1 V8 back axle and front diff
	* Parabolic Springs
	* Unistrut camp bed

The Rebuilds

These have their own separate section and a huge amount of modification went on during the 2nd one, so most stuff is probably in there:

When first (re)built the transmission tunnel was a shameful cobble of whatever offcuts of metal were laying around. Due to the engine & gearbox being further back than standard (sportscar weight distribution doncha know?) a standard one wasn't going to fit either so Miketomcat spun his sticky web of glass and resin and made me a perfectly snug fitting one with a little cubby for good measure:

This was a product of necessity - we had tickets to reading festival and didn't want to be in a tent, and there was a surplus of Unistrut at work...

It worked OK but was too close to the ceiling for ease of occupancy and having to lift sections of board to get to boxes underneath was a huge pain. It WAS however 10x better than being in a damp and muddy tent over that festival weekend.
